The Munich Public Library is providing better service to its customers with the help of RFID.

BACKGROUND
The Munich Public Library and its 25 district libraries process more than 49,000 items each day.

CHALLENGE The library set out to

  • safeguard its books
  • streamline check-in and check-out processes
  • provide 24-hour service to the citizens of Munich.
SOLUTION The library tagged 1.5 million items with UPM BullsEye and RaceTrack HF (high frequency) RFID tags.

SUCCESS
  • The RFID installation has delivered improvements across a wide range of areas, from book identification, sorting, inventory control, self check-out and theft prevention.
  • Moreover, librarians can now spend more time dealing with important tasks like helping customers.
